In a town with a small population, it can be challenging to make the first move in launching a business and even more challenging to maintain it after it has begun. This week, AMA hosted Chloe and Tamie Nielsen, co-owners Chlotique, a boutique for women’s clothing. They joined us to discuss how they have succeeded in creating their brand
At only age 17, Chloe began by first selling her clothes strictly online. After gaining a positive reaction from community members and college students, she and her mother proceeded to expand and open a physical store in Vermillion. Since the opening in March of 2015, they have become well recognized in the community and have increased sales from following a few simple tactics.
1. Inventing Yourself
When creating your brand image, it is important to keep in mind the culture of your business. The environment at Chlotique is one that is fun, exciting and free-spirited. Their online business is what has made them succeed the most and has allowed them to expand. Make sure that you are doing things within your business that are important and enjoyable to you. For example, giving back to their community is something that Chlotique finds both important and enjoyable. Because of this drive they carry unique brands including their Second Chance keychains, Blessing Bracelets, Giving Key necklaces and Headbands of Hope, which are philanthropic brands that use a portion of the money to give back to a specific cause.
2. Increase Online and Social Media Presence
Consistency, consistency, consistency! Chlotique’s traffic through Facebook has gained the most conversions, but regularly updating Instagram and Pinterest has helped to increase sales as well. When posting to these social media platforms, content needs to be relevant to the targeted market. Most of the audience is made up of young women who are interested in the newest trends that match their personal fashion preferences. College football and fall fads are attractive this season that help to generate relevant and engaging social media advertising that promote discounts and giveaways to interact with the consumers as well as entice them into the store.
3. Have Fun With It
It is almost impossible for others to fall in love with your business if you don’t love it yourself - so have fun. One of the biggest values that Chlotique has is focusing on customer service. It is important to them to make sure that customers undergo a positive experience and feel that their needs are put first. By interacting with their customers in this manner, everyone has an enjoyable experience and it makes them want to come back for more.
